This car is very cool and not a very common sight any where, let alone on ebay especially in complete and get in and drive
condition. This car is a gull wing version of the 70's can-am / lemans porsche race car built on a volks wagon frame and motor. It
is a 4 speed manual trans and is also a 4 cylinder which I believe is a 1600 dual port motor, I am not sure of true mileage but
speedo shows 04169. This vehicle is in very good condition and runs and looks good. It has a few blemishes in the paint (Emerald
green metal flake) but no cracks or breaks that I have seen or that I am aware of. The tires have great tread but are starting to get
dry and crack around the sidewalls, and the rims (aluminum mags) are in good condition. All the lights and turn signals work
along with working door locks and sliding back window. This machine is a two seater with a small bit of room inside behind the
seats. It has been driven on the street often and is a real head turner and traffic stopper. And what a head turner and a crazy
looking machine this car is. Many people say it looks like a futuristic car and not something from years ago. The paint is very
different for a car as it looks like the Bass boat metal flake and is set apart from most any other machine out there in many ways. I
have never seen another of these driving around any where I have ever been and I always look to see if any are noted in the V W
books or online. I have seen a few of these cars listed online at kit cars web site and went for sale from $8000 to $14,000. The
metal plate on the body inside the drivers door shows (917 - 178).
The car runs and drives good and it is in get in and go for a ride condition. I do drive it now and then but used to drive it very
often and have driven it a few hundred miles at a time. The body is in good shape and the windshield, side windows and rear
window are also in good Condition. I am not aware of any cracks in the fiberglass at all.
I also have the original paper work for this kit and including the colors chart and assemblly manual which includes wiring diagram
and tech specs, a book of (what is a kit car?) and letters from gerald W. knapp (maker of car) to customer. This car is 77" wide
and 170" long and will seat a person up to about 6'4" tall.
All the gauges work but the tach, as it now works when it feels like it. This car is in completed condition but could use some TLC
in the way of touch-up like reglueing the interior vinyl in spots.
Mike is selling his Elite Enterprises Laser 917A Porsche replica at the Lowes Motor Speedway (SC) Autofair on September 14 17. Asking price is $9500 or best offer.
