You are bidding on a Laser 917 roadster originally produced by Elite Enterprises as a kit. It has a VW chasis and manual transmission (4 speed). The engine is from a chevrolet corvair and is an air cooled flat 6. Most of this car has been restored including the interior with new vynol side and rear panels and new momo steering wheel along with other momo bits. Please note that I purchased this car with no top and the doors do not open. Therefore it has always been garaged. Besides the paint and body work the electricals and mechanicals have all been gone through to make this a turn key kit car just requiring some adjustments. The paint is not perfect and there is 1 large scratch on the right front nose. Keep in mind that this car is being sold "as is" and being used, assembled and from 1969 is far from perfect. The title is clear but listed in the make as ASVE for an assembled vehicle. I have changed the headlights to round lights that match the 1970s look of the car but will also give with he car the square units and covers. I also replaced the shifter boot to match the interior. The right front tire has a slow leak, the engine runs rich, clutch could use some adjustment and the engine leaks some oil (it is air cooled). This car is insured and appraised for much more than I am selling. Currently it is located in MD but still has legal SC tag and registration thus legal. OK here is the fun part: My opinion and others have stated that because of the power to wt. it drives like an overpowered gokart. To the new owner, you will stop traffic, draw crowds and meet plenty of folks who may even follow you just to check out this car. Bidders-good luck! So the adventure has begun! Will my laser turn into a scrapped pile of fibreglass like so many kit cars before it? Here's the Laser as it stands in my workshop. (If you're wondering that's a functioning, but decomposing, 1973 SuperBeetle). A couple quick cuts and the top of the roof and the top halves of the doors are gone. A few more cuts, and half the windshield pillar is gone, since the windshield will be half-height on the final product. I've cut the roof back a bit farther, and the rear window is out. You can also see a marker line going back the body showing roughly where the big cut will be made. There's a lot of restructuring that will happen in the rear section since those two "bulges" will disappear. Here's what I cut off. The roof, half the doors, half the windsheild pillar, and a few miscellaneous parts. Here's a front view. You can't see it in this picture (but I've faked it up by the title), but when the rear is flattened, I will be adding an engine bulge, much like the one on the rear of a Countach Quattrovalve. Also, the engine compartment will probably have to move forward some to accept the bulk of the 454. I had considered having no doors at all, but it's just a bit too high to make it. So I'm going to do scissor doors, sort of like the Manta, Ultima, or Countach have. What you see here is only half an hour of work. The car is parked at my parents' house, about two hours from where I life, so work will go slowly. Over the holidays I spent a little more time cutting pieces off of my Laser, and taping style lines to figure out exactly how everything will work. You can see the results below. The pictures on the left are the car as it is, and on the right I've scribbled on the photos so try and show what it actually will be. Here are the minimum changes that I forsee: Windshield: Single piece weap-around plexiglass unit. It's similar to what was in some of the James Dean-style Porsche Spyders. It will probably be split at the doors, depending on how the doors are done. The won't be any vertical pillars, but perhaps a support around the top. Sides: The sides will probably be curved in, creating the appearance of huge, bulging fenders. Even if I don't do this as drastically as I've shown in these pictures, I will smooth out the fenders to eliminate the molded lower border. Doors: The car is low enough that doors could be left off, were it not for the windsheild. I haven't decided yet how the doors will be done, but integrating smoothly with the windsheild is the key. Suicide doors are my current leaning, but it's a decision that will come late in the design game. Rear End: As you can see by the top pictures, my plan for the rear of the car is something akin to the Spyder or Boxster look. I may even take a mold off the front of the car and use it to build the back as a slightly enlarged version of the front.
